Took some photos of the lovely Tegan on Thursday and I couldn't be happier with how they turned out. Very pleased indeed.
I used 800 speed film for the first few and they didn't come out that bad. I've always feared 800 film but not anymore.

Long time since my last update on here. The biggest news since my last post would have to be that I purchased my dream camera...a Hasselblad 500C/M with the stunning Carl Ziess 80mm Planar T* lens. I used it for the first time this week with distill and the results can be seen below. I didn't plan out any of this shoot because I mainly just wanted to test the camera, lens and film so we both just kind of walked around town and hoped for the best. The first above and the first under the cut were taken with Fuji Provia slide film and cross-processed in c-41 chemicals. The rest of the Hasselblad photos were taken with Kodak Portra 160VC film. The polaroids at the end were taken with a folding SX-70 camera using SX-70 film.

SX-70 polaroids

These are some SX-70 polaroids. Last month I had 100 SX-70 shots left, today I've got 90 shots left in my lifetime...unless Polaroid decides to continue to produce the film.

The last photo is a shot I took of Tegan last month but didn't scan it in until last week. This photo was taken with fuji sensia slide film cross-processed.

These were all taken with a holga camera using medium foramt Kodak T400CN film and 35mm Kodak BW400CN film.
These were taken a couple weeks ago I think but I've had the flu since then and didn't have much energy to do much at all. I'm starting to feel a bit better though.
Thanks once again to Lisa for being my model for the day :)

These photos are meant to be viewed with monitors calibrated correctly. I've noticed ever since I've been getting prints made that my monitor wasn't set dark enough. If you wanted to set yours right then go somewhere like here http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints1A.html#Gammabox and go about half way down to the "Gamma and black level chart". If you have a laptop then...

I think my next shoot will be all SX-70 polaroids as I just received 10 packets of film in the mail :D

PRINTS!

My prints actually arrived quite a long time ago but I haven't really had a chance to take photos of them until now. Firstly I'm very happy with how they all came out. I was expecting them to look like crap but thankfully they exceeded my expectations. Secondly lustre is really worth the extra couple cents. I ordered one matte photo and it looked good but just very flat and dull compared to the finish on the lustre prints. Lustre lustre lustre!

This red leaves photo really blew me away when I first looked at it.
This is the 51x76cm/20x30inches version but you can go bigger if you want. I think this may be the beginning of a new obsession of mine...making big prints of my photos because it just makes a photo look 100 times better compared to looking at it on a small electronic screen.

These are the 41x51cm/16x20inches size. To be completely honest with you the one on the right only just meets my high standards. I knew making a print of that size for that particular polaroid may be a mistake because theres some grainy glare from the sun in the background but looking closely at the print it is still pretty nice and I'll be leaving it available for people to buy. If you're in doubt though and you really wanted to get that particular polaroid without any worries then the 20x25cm/8x10inches version is absolutely perfect (look below). The polaroid on the left looks really nice at that big size though.

These are the 20x25cm/8x10inches size.

This is the 10x13cm/4x5inches size which comes out to just about the same size as an actual polaroid.

Please excuse the crappy over-powering flash photos but I just got lazy.

There are 24 photos in total under the cut so open it up in a new window and wait for it all to load.
The first lot are photos taken with Kodak T400CN B&W medium format film on a Holga camera. The second lot are photos taken on a Yashica TL Electro-X with 200 speed Fuji Sensia slide film cross-processed. The last lot are photos taken with 35mm 400 speed Fuji Sensia slide film cross-processed using a Holga camera. Before anyone asks the last lot of photos look like that because I shot 35mm film in a medium format camera using a lot of tape, elastic bands and foam.

A big thanks to Tegan for being the model in all of these photos.

So in other news instead of buying a digital slr I bought a film scanner. Go figure. What does this mean? Not a lot really except the digital camera is going to have to wait. I received the 50mm lens in the mail so it's just sitting here for the moment waiting for the canon digital body to go with. Maybe this way I can get a better body as prices seem to be going down every month.

It seems like forever since I had film developed from my holga. I finally got through the fuji provia slide film that was sitting in there for the last couple of months or so. These were cross-processed as usual. The actual print looks 100 times better than these dodgy scans. I think my scanner is nearing it's end.

In other news this camera arrived today in the mail

On Tuesday I met up with Lisa for what was to become our second shoot together. I couldn't have been happier with the results. Thanks once again Lisa, hopefully we can do it all again sometime soon :)

There's a lot of photos under the cut so it's best to open it up in a new window and let it all load for a bit. I couldn't decide which ones to post so I just chose pretty much all of them :P For this shoot I was focusing more on the beauty of black and white and the model rather than the arty side of photography. I used Kodak BW400CN *cough cough*. Yes it's the c-41 variety but who cares right? It still captures the moment.

So it's finally up and running. A big thank you goes out to my lovely girl Jasmine who had to put up with my constant changing opinions. The website would have been under construction for life without her. Thank you beautiful.

The website has only just been created and may contain various html errors. If you find anything wrong with the websites functionality then could you please tell me. Any help is appreciated.

I think there's two or three photos in there that no one has seen before so keep an eye out for them. Nothing big but just slight variations of past photos.

Ha this one was a mistake as you can probably tell but I kinda like it.

All of these were taken with sx-70 film using both a '1000' and '2000' polaroid land camera.
All the clothes were made by my brother. This whole shoot was for his final project at tafe.

Anyone from Perth notice how perfect the sky was this afternoon?
These sx-70 polaroids were all taken today. The first three were taken with a '1000 polaroid land camera' while the last was taken with a '2000 polaroid land camera'. The 2000 camera actually has a focusing ring but it can be hard to guess how many metres the subject is from the lens. You can get a very shallow DOF with it which looks better than I thought it would. I did take a few more polaroids with the 2000 camera trying all this but they're just not quite right so I'll hopefully fiddle around with it a bit more tomorrow.

These are some photos I took of Sheena last week. I shot with fuji sensia slide film and had it cross-processed. The first has been photoshopped just a little as I wanted to get a surreal dreamy type feel to it so I added in the black border. This photo was inspired by Twin Peaks.
The very talented Sheena made the black and white checkered dress you can see in all three photos. If you're interested her DA page is here.

I know I've mentioned this before but I've been thinking very seriously in the last week or so about getting a digital SLR. There are three choices. The first is the D70 with the standard lens. This camera feels really nice in my hands and the standard kit lens is very very good. Having said that I only fiddled with it for a bit but I couldn't get a really shallow depth of field which is what I want. The second is the digital rebel 350D with the standard 18-55mm lens. This camera feels good in my hands but when compared to the D70 there is a big difference. The D70 just feels...more real? Also at first I was frightened off by the lens as it had a weird focus ring at the very front which I wasn't used to and it was also very sensitive but I did get used to it in the end. Also I could get a pretty decent shallow depth of field. The third choice is the digital rebel 350D with the 17-85mm lens. I haven't had a try of this lens but from reviews it seems like a very good lens. It should be as this lens costs about as much as the body but over here in Australia I'd get $400 cash back from Canon which is why I'm considering it. So the D70 is around $1700AUS, the 350D with standard lens is around $1200AUS and the 350D with the good lens is around $1700AUS after cash back. I'm not sure what to do. I don't have that much money which is the problem.

The only reason I'm even considering getting a dslr is because I wanted to move into more studio type photography with all the lighting etc. This is easy enough to get away with when using film if it's just a standard type lighting shot but I wanted to try some really dramatic type lighting. What I have in my head just couldn't be achieved with film without a lot of fustration. I just feel that I'd go through so much film and waste so much of the models time just by trying to get everything right. Shooting digital is the only way I would even feel comfortable with this.
I also like the idea of shooting digital when I want black and white images. This is a constant problem of mine as there have been many situations where I have black and white film in my camera but I'd really like to be shooting in colour. In my ideal world I'd have colour slide film in my film slr and have a dslr capable of shooting b&w AND dramatic studio lighting photography.
I'd also use my film slr for indoor photography but only with standard lit subjects. At first I wasn't sure about using film for indoor portraits but the other day I tried it with slide film of all things and it came out better than I thought. The photo of beautiful Jasmine you can see is that very example.

Both the photos in this post have been cross-processed using fuji sensia film. The other one is under the cut and there's also a long discussion of my thoughts on cameras at the moment. Trust me only read that if you're interested. I put it there more for my own benefit than anything.

Edit: I forgot to mention that this guy here http://www.chrisweeks.net/ mentioned how he liked my photos on his own DA page. I only got excited when I realised he had actually taken photos of David Lynch! I think my ulitmate dream would be to meet and take photos of David Lynch. I would die a happy man.

If you're one of those people that uses photobucket and haven't moved to flickr yet, or still aren't happy with flickr and want something else then maybe go and check out www.shutterbook.com
They are offering free lifetime memberships/premium accounts to anyone that joins while they are still setting things up. I don't know much about the details of the site regarding large images and bandwidth but I've uploaded one image and it came up just fine when testing it on lj. To get the url to an image you have to right click and open in new window.

Oh and everyone should go join the polaroid community polequalsart. I only just recently became a co-moderator to help out with a few things. It's just starting out but some of the polaroids on there are really nice.

These are photos that I took of Dee last week. The film I used was fuji provia. Some are taken with the fisheye adaptor while the rest are just with my normal lens. I'm still getting used to this film. I don't know which slide film I prefer to be honest. I'm really comfortable with fuji sensia. I know the way it reacts, it's pretty cheap and readily available. Fuji provia on the other hand is quite expensive, hard to find and it's so hard to know what it's going to do sometimes. In terms of the sky provia wins hands down. In terms of skin colour sensia wins hands down. In terms of grass I think provia is just a nose in front. Reds come out nice on sensia if taken in the shade but reds look really good on provia in the sun or shade. I don't know. I think I might just stick to provia in the holga and sensia in the slr.

black and white

If you've been on my friends list for long enough you would have seen the holga photos of the two guys and the bird playing chess in the park but the other day I saw them all again and this time had my slr with me and they let me sit with them and take photos while they played. Some of these were taken with my normal 50mm lens while others (the ones with noticable blurring around the edges) were taken with the fisheye lens adaptor. The thing I've learnt with the fisheye adaptor is that it's really good at taken really close macro shots and of buildings with it set to infinity but anywhere in between it's very hard to get it just right. You either get a cool kind of dreamy effect or it just gives you a headache from to much blur. I'll keep this in mind for next time.

I have so many other photos to post but I'll just post these for now and maybe update later in the week with shots from a roll of fuji provia I just had developed.

I obviously didn't take this one

So here are the results from the fuji provia cross-processed using my slr and the new fisheye lens. As you can see it's not that fisheyed so it doesn't have the black circle around it but it still bends enough to notice. I couldn't be happier with the lens. Next time I think I'll try to take photos of things more interesting than flowers, sky and buildings but for a test roll of mainly the film I was quite happy with how they turned out. These aren't photoshopped.

The first four are some random photos I've had just sitting here for a couple of months waiting to be scanned. They're actually the first time I've taken cross-processed shots at night. I like how the lights came out looking very blown out in them. Very unnatural.
The other four are some very tourist type photos of Melbourne. Four holgas. They were just taken on regular film. I really wanted to use provia whilst in Melbourne but I couldn't find it anywhere plus I didn't want to try and have them developed in a place I wasn't familiar with.

There's more tourist type photos that I've just uploaded onto my lomohome
if anyone is interested. Some colorsplash and more holgas. Not very good mind you.

I've got a huge backlog of ideas for shoots stuck in my head waiting to be captured on film but I need to find the time and money to get them done. I also need models. Anyone on my friends list from around here want to be my model sometime in the near future?

Here are some photos from my slr that I didn't get a chance to post earlier. They're the rest of the photos from the earlier polaroid post of Lisa.

Arrived back home today from the little holiday in Melbourne. I didn't really take that many photos over there. Any I took were just tourist shots of old buildings and of course the Flinders Street Station.
One thing I learnt whilst over there was that I am never going to get my photos done at a photo lab that doesn't have a fuji machine. I had previously read about people saying that fuji film should be done at a place that has fuji machines but didn't think much of it but after looking at the dull photos I had done at a kodak place in melbourne I can safely say I've learnt my lesson.

I also finally found a polaroid spectra. Can anyone on here tell me how to do double-exposures with it?
